About

Hi, my name is Andy Baird. I have a passion for sushi, good beer, hockey, and of course programming. I taught myself PHP seven years ago and stumbled into Zend Framework two years ago.

About me

I was born in 1984 in Minneapolis and live in Uptown, Minneapolis today (after spending some time in Seattle). Aside from programming, I love playing hockey -- both recreational and competitive. I currently work at Global Market Insite, Inc as an application support engineer.

Zend Framework

This site is primarily about my experiences with Zend Framework so I feel this footnote is worth it. Zend Framework isn't like most other frameworks. There are conventions if you dig deep enough, but for the most part it's kind of the wild west of MVC -- take what you want and kill the rest. This is a result of the philosophy behind ZF (and I'd argue PHP, as well) -  loosely coupled and use-at-will. While this philosophy is what has prevented guided documentation that other frameworks have, in the long term you will realize major benefits on programming efficiency for both small and large PHP applications.

The goal of the website is to help fill the gap between where the quickstart leaves you and the time until you're knowledgeable enough with the ZF library to really take advantage of the loosely coupled philosophy.
